Biomechanical gait study at Clínica FIMED

What is a biomechanical study?

A biomechanical gait study is a complete assessment that lets us analyse how your feet behave and how your body moves when you stand, walk or run.

It’s not only about observing where you land. We assess movement globally, the mobility of your joints, load distribution and how the foot interacts with the rest of the body.

A biomechanical study isn’t about finding a “perfect” footstrike. Our goal is to identify which aspects are relevant to your case, your symptoms and your activity.

What it involves

The study, step by step

01

Interview and initial assessment

We learn about your activity, type of sport, previous injuries or discomfort, training habits and the reason you’re having the study.

02

Foot and lower limb examination

We assess the mobility, structure and function of the foot and ankle, as well as their relationship with knee, hip and the rest of the lower limb.

03

Gait and stride analysis

We observe how you distribute the loads and how the foot behaves during support and while you walk.

04

Footwear assessment

We analyse your everyday or sports footwear and advise you on which features may suit your needs best.

05

Personalised recommendations

We set the most suitable recommendations for you: changes in footwear, exercises, joint work with physiotherapy or, when indicated, custom insoles.

Who can it help?

People with recurring pain or discomfort: pain in feet, ankles or knees, or issues such as heel pain, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia or Achilles tendon problems.

Athletes and sportspeople: the study lets us analyse how your body behaves during the sports gesture, assess the footstrike, technique and load management.

Prevention and early assessment in children: during growth, a podiatric assessment helps check that development is normal and detect alterations early that really need follow-up.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to prepare anything before the study?
We recommend bringing the footwear you use regularly and comfortable clothing that allows us to see your legs (ideally short, fitted trousers so we can observe your hip). If you have previous medical reports about your lower limbs, bring the information to the appointment.
How long is the appointment and what will I take away?
It lasts around 60 minutes. At the end, our professional will explain your case, give you advice on your footwear and, if you wish, send you the image of your study by email within a few days. If necessary, they’ll prescribe specific exercises to achieve the goals set out.
Is the study suitable for children?
Yes. During growth, feet and the way of walking are constantly changing. A biomechanical study lets us assess how the child’s gait evolves, detect possible alterations and follow their development. It’s always adapted to their age and needs, intervening only when necessary.
Are insoles included in the price of the study?
No. If the professional considers they’re needed, the plantar orthoses will be 100% custom-made. The supplement is 150 euros.
